It was two very different days over the 25th and 26th July at our summer speed weekend. Perfect racing conditions on the Saturday night, with a fast dry track, with Sunday afternoon seeing showers and downpours throughout the day. The two contrasting days allowed for a bit of everything though, and the weekend produced some magical racing.

The Unlimited Bangers entertained excellently on the Saturday night much to everyone’s delight. The Unlimited Bangers have seen some ‘roddy’ like race meetings in the past, but Saturday was anything but roddy with the drivers getting stuck in with no more than 7 cars finishing any single race on the night. Sean McConnachie took glory in the Scottish Championship race – a deserving accolade given his commitment to banger racing in Scotland. Sean moved into the lead early on in the race and kept his composure as he navigated through the traffic, avoided the chaos, and maintain a gap to those chasing behind. Lee Clarke set out to entertain, and he entertained the crowd with a couple of head on attempts, before coming to blows with the fast moving Cameron Innes car. Clarke found himself collected by a further couple of cars as he was knocked about like a pinball afterwards. The back straight seen some big hits going in as well, with Jake Calvert, Lee Waller, James Slater and David Sinclair all getting stuck in. Sean McConnachie took the win ahead of the hard chasing Colin Riddell, with Calum Campbell completing the podium positions. Riddell would go on to take the wins in the following two races, with track debutant Charlie Whitfield taking the DD win following some good action with Fraser Combe.

The ORCi Ministox raced over the two days, with out the hat grids to determine the qualifying heats on Saturday night. Three different race winners in the heats, seen Stuart Shevill, Oakley Grief and Jacob Mikulla take the wins. The grid was formed for the European Championship with the collated points from those heats, and it provided a mouthwatering grid for the APEX Garden Buildings European Championship race. The race on the Sunday afternoon was up there with one of the best we’ve seen. There were lots of lead changes, lots of drivers charging from further back the grid and catching the lead pack, with 6-8 cars battling for the lead of the race at points. UK Champion Charlie Weston found his hopes dashed early on as a coming together seen some heavy damage for the 313 car – otherwise, he too would have likely had been in the mix. Corey Mathers, Ollie Sime, Stuart Shevill, Harry Martin, Shaun Boyle, Jayden Roff, and Casey Lee were the ones up front for most of the race and those drivers chopped and changed on a regular basis, lap after lap as the race wore on. Roff found himself spun around and dropped back mid-way through. Lana Middler drove an excellent race as she came from near the back of the grid and up into the top 6 places come the end of the race. It was Northern Ireland’s Harry Martin that took the win though, crossing the line just ahead of Mathers, Sime and Boyle, with Shevill spun on the exit of turn 4 on the last lap. Jacob Mikulla took the win in the Fife Championship race ahead of Shevill and Bailey Wilson, whilst Caitlin Mitchell took the win in the all comers race ahead of Shevill and Cody Wilson.

The 1600 Bangers raced for their Scottish Championship – an event that has seen great racing over the years. However, a few other big meetings of late put a few drivers off, and numbers were down on what we’d hoped for. However, there were some great racing with Ashley Neil and Ryan Martin getting stuck in throughout the meeting. Jamie George and Conor McDougall came away with cars somewhat worse for wear. Dylan Ward took the victory in the Scottish Championship race ahead of Gav Taylor and Adrian Martins. Gav Taylor took the win in the following races, whilst Ashely Neil took the entertainers award.

The Junior Bangers were in action over the two days, with the youngsters providing lots of brilliant racing in meetings that had it all – Rollovers, big hits and lots of overtaking. Dougie Kidd took the first win of the weekend in the opening race, whilst Tommy Melrose took a heat and final double on the Saturday night. Things spiced up a bit on the Sunday as the youngsters starting to put the bumpers in lap after lap in each of the races. Three different winners on the Sunday seen Tommy Melrose, Dougie Kidd and Scott Ramsay Jnr take the wins.

The Rebels Racing teams made the trip north as they raced for their Scottish and European Championships. Making the trip north for the first time since 2022, just under 30 cars took to the track over the weekend, providing brilliant racing. The contact formula produced a number of ‘last benders’, a spectacular rollover, and a few cars climbing over each other over the two days. Rob Jones took the Scottish Championship, whilst Harry Graham took the European Championship win on the Sunday afternoon.

The Superstox raced on the Saturday night, with Dom Currie making his first outing of the season. Jordan Black was with us again, and was in good form throughout the night. Craig Stephen was aiming to defend the John Gibson Memorial Trophy and was certainly in the mood to defend it with a great drive in the meeting final! Aaron Riddell and Kenny McKenzie took the wins in the heats, before an excellent meeting final. Jordan Black led the way for a long time in the race looked to be in with a chance of victory. A race caution dampened his chances though, as the pack closed in behind. In the closing stages, the bumpers went in – Craig Stephen was up there, Aaron Riddell, Bryan Forrest and Jordan Black too. A last corner melay seen the positions swapped around a bit as drivers went wide, spun and got caught up – Riddell took the win ahead of Bryan Forrest, with Benjamin Erskine pipping Craig Stephen to third place.

The Junior Productions completed the line up on Sunday afternoon with some good racing in challenging track conditions. Leeland Dearn and Candice Smart took the wins in the heats, before Rory Wilson took the win in the meeting final in what was a great meeting for our lower graded drivers.

** ProStock Results - After Review

Saturday 18th July seen a fantastic night of on track action at Lochgelly Raceway, as we commenced the second half of the stock car season.

The ProStock formula led the line up as they raced for the Graeme Boyle Memorial trophy, with over £1500 worth of prizes up for grabs for the race. A strong field of over 20 cars took to the track, and no sooner had the green flag dropped, we seen the bumpers going in! Early in the race, Kai McNulty disposed of Dean McGill in the borrowed Mark Boyle car, only to find himself stranded up against the wall, and with Dean McGill getting himself going, the next lap, Dean McGill took a shot at the stranded McNulty car – with both cars out of contention for the remainder of the night for their action. A race caution followed, and the race soon resumed. Chris Mack found himself leading the way, showing good pace throughout. However, it wasn’t to be for Mack though, as Paul Barron moved him aside with several laps remaining. Mack stuck with Barron, but wasn’t able to take the lead of the race again, and Barron took the win ahead of Mack and Ryan Martin. Heat 2 seen Dougie Kidd cross the line in first place after an action packed, stop start race which seen a few cars retire to the infield with damage. Chris Mack took yet another second place finish, with Ryan Martin behind once more. With the result yet to be confirmed we await information as to see how the final positions will look after review of a few incidents during the race. The final race of the night for the formula was arguably the quietest, as the drivers found themselves racing without too much big hits – though positions chopped and change for long periods in the race. Chris Mack took a deserved victory, with Callum Elliott finishing 2nd and Matthew Wilson in 3rd.

The U Pull It 1400 Stock Cars took to the track in the first of the new points series, and were in good form throughout the meeting. Hard hitting action was evident in each of the races, with cars often being four and five abreast out of corners and down the straights, ensuring all eyes were on the battles on track. Craig Haxton took the win in the opening heat, whilst Callum Sturrock took a win in heat 2. Brant West went on to take the win in the meeting final ahead of visiting driver Dan Cole, and Charlie Henry.

The Superstox seen trophy sponsorship for Annette Turner Book Keeping, and good racing in every race. The star drivers fought closely in all races as they tried to come through the field without slowing themselves down too much. Jordan Black made a welcome return to racing, and was in good form in each of the three races. Jordan found himself on the receiving end of a last lap hit from Bryan Forrest in heat 2, which seen him spin around and drop down the order after what looked set to be a top 3 finish. Bryan Forrest took a heat and final double on the night, with Aaron Riddell taking the other heat. Black would get his top 3 finish in the meeting final, staying out of the way of the hard charging Forrest and Riddell. Danny Whyte put in one of his best performances for quite some time in the class, and was in the mix throughout all three races, though, found himself a little eager on a couple of the starts, but he will go away satisfied with his progress.

The CC Rods completed their British Championship qualifying series, and it was a good close night of racing for the budget formula. There were strong performances from the girl racers in the ranks – Brooke McMullan was in contention throughout the night, whilst Keira Wotherspoon looked to have found her feet in the formula, taking a race win in heat 2 in the process. McMullan came away with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th for her efforts. Kenny Pitcaithly took a hard fought win in the opening race of the night, in a car that looked to be struggling with understeer, holding off McMullan to take the win. Wotherspoon took the win in heat 2, holding off the ever improving Craig Denholm, with McMullan 3rd. In the meeting final it was Ian Donaldson that claimed victory, holding off an in-form Gregory Whyte and Liam Conway, with Conway showing that he is going to be one of the stars of the formula in the not too distant future.

The National Hot Rods completed the line up. Barry Stephen had yet another issue in the opening heat that forced him into retirement for the evening. Paul Cusack took the wins in the heats, with Gordon Alexander taking the victory in the meeting final after a close battle with Ian Donaldson.

Wow, what a night.

It was one of them nights where every formula produced the goods – superb racing through each of the 20 scheduled races. It had everything. Hard hitting action, door to door racing, hair raising moments and absolute carnage!

The primary focus of Saturday’s event was on the youngsters though, our stars of the future as they contested their Scrapco Metal Recycling World Championship event, with a few support races for non-qualifying drivers as well. There were just under 50 youngsters with us on the day, and they produced the goods. The non-qualifying drivers got the chance to be part of the event, and ultimately, win a place on the back of the main race itself later in the night. For the support races, there were some very good performances – Harry Ford looked to have the bit between his teeth, Jenson Lehec and Henri Liptrott likewise. Max Armit would be the one though that took the win in their final, as he secured a place in the World Championship race. For the qualifying drivers, each driver would race in 2 out of 3 qualifying heats, with the points tallied to give the grid for the World Championship race, later in the night. Three different winners in the heats seen three different race winners, with 7 Rory Wilson setting a lap record in those heats. Wilson himself took a win in the opening heat, whilst Jack Murphy and Mason Carberry took race wins in the further heats. The World Championship grid was formed, with Rory Wilson on pole position and Mason Carberry on his outside. George Cooper, Alfie MacLeod, Elliott Lake and Henry Hunn were in the rows behind in what was a mouthwatering first few rows of the grid. Rory Wilson got away well and led the early stages of the race, though fell back into second place, before making a move back to the front, and seemingly looking like a good chance of success. A further race stoppage seen the pack close up, and Wilson once more found himself under pressure from Carberry, Cooper and Elliott Lake. Cooper moved into the lead of the race, before Wilson came back at him and once more moved into the lead of the race and a few kart lengths ahead. Cooper found some clear track behind though, and got the bit between his teeth and chased down Wilson once more, before moving into the lead, with Lake pressuring Wilson likewise as the front three battled through the traffic. Further back, Alfie Shevill was making inroads into the lead pack as was a resurgent Christopher Lattka. As the laps wore down, Cooper extended his lead somewhat, and took the win and the World Championship as he punched the air as he crossed the line. Lake pipped Wilson to 2nd place, with Wilson completing the top 3. For a number of drivers, it was there final time of racing at Lochgelly in the Ninja Karts, before ageing out ahead of the next event here at Lochgelly, and we wish each of them the best as they move into their next formula.

The U Pull It 1400 Stock Cars were in great form with the bumbers going in hard throughout each race. Chris Innes found himself in the thick of the action on a number of occasions, finding himself at the front of a train of cars that had all went into the corner hard, and Innes found himself clattering the wall with quite some force. Dean McGill and Brant West looked to have a bit of a ding dong throughout the night, with the pair exchanging heavy blows on more than one occasion. McGill took a heat and final double, whilst Sam Cavanagh took an inspiring victory in the second heat of the night.

The CC Rods seen a few cars missing, and a few cars drop out after the opening heat – one of which was Scottish Champion Ian Donaldson who was debuting a brand new Fiesta. Gavin Ritchie also debutised his new car, and was bang on form with it as he took wins in each of the two heats. Ritchie drove excellently in all three races and defended superbly at times as he held on against the star graded Robert Conway and in form Liam Conway. Lee Scott looked to be back on form as well after a difficult couple of meetings, bringing his car home in the top 5 in all three races.

The ProStocks were certainly a formula to watch on Saturday – Dougie Kidd was in the mood for it, and was the driver to watch as he pushed his way through the field in each of the three races in a newly built car as he sets his sights on the points chase in the second half of the season. There was plenty of action in all three races, with drivers throughout the grid getting stuck in to great effect producing lots of exciting racing. Paul McNulty Jnr took a race win in the opening heat with Dylan Dickson taking the win in heat 2. Dougie Kidd took the win in the meeting final ahead of Kai McNulty and Paul McNulty Jnr.

The Junior Productions completed a busy few weeks, and once more delivered lots of excellent racing. The youngsters had a few bumps during the night, but overall, the racing was excellent with lots of very close, competitive racing. Calum Ritchie took the win in the opening heat, whilst Lee Moore went on to take a heat and final double in the further races. Leeland Dearn looked to have found his feet with his new car after a few issues last time out, as he came away with 2x 2nd place finishes for his efforts, whilst Kenzie Kopacz continued his good form, with a hat-trick of 3rd place finishes on the night.

The Caravans completed the evening, and entertained once more. Despite only a few caravans in attendance, those drivers all entertained, and destroyed every caravan on the track! James Slater Sr and James Slater Jnr finished things off in style, as Sr parked his limo across the track for son James Jnr to drive through much to the crowd’s delight.

We move into our mid season break now, and will return to action on Saturday 18th July.

It was a fast and frantic Friday night of Stock Car action on the 12th June at Lochgelly Raceway as we raced through 12 races in less than 3 hours. The track conditions were mixed throughout the event as we were hampered by rain showers throughout the afternoon and evening.

The race teams battled with setup changes as a result of the conditions, and all formula put in a good display of racing, with the Ministox arguably taking the plaudits. The youngsters were back to there best with some top notch racing, with the bumpers put to good effect without too much damage.

The ORCi Ministox welcomed several visiting drivers from England and Northern Ireland, and with the bolstered numbers, the racing was exciting as the star graded drivers battled there way through from the back in each of the races. There were at times, a few drivers a little too keen to get going, with the reds having to reset themselves on more than one occasion. Corey Mathers continued his good form in his new car, whilst Stuart Shevill Jnr Jnr was back to his best as he raced to a heat and final double, retaining the HRP Marshals Shield in the process. Southern visitor 550 Callum Herzig took a heat win too. Former Ninja Kart driver Rudi Arcari made his debut in the Ministox class, and showed improvement in each of the three races throughout the night.

The youngsters in the Junior Productions were also in good form – showing good fast and extremely competitive racing through each of the three races. Adam Donnelly has shown good improvement of late, and that was once more evident on Friday as he held his own for long periods in each of the races before being overcome in the closing stages of the races. Callum Ritchie has refound his form after a spell of DNF’s and car issues, as he raced to a heat and final double, which will see him move swiftly back upto the red grade. Lee Moore was another driver to shine on Friday. Moore has been there or thereabouts for much of the season so far, but had his best night of the year so far on Friday, winning heat 1, before finishing in 2nd in the meeting final too. Connor st Aubyn has been flying under the radar for periods – despite not scoring race wins, he has been consistently amongst the front running drivers, and that was no different on Friday, as he finished 3rd in 2 out of 3 races.

The U Pull It 1400 Stock Cars were in action, and we seen some great racing from the formula in all three races. Bumpers were going in through each of the races, with end to end action once more – something that we have become used to here at Lochgelly Raceway from the 1400 formula. Charlie Henry got back to winning ways as she took the victory in heat 1, before Fraser Clark took a win in heat 2. David McCulloch, in the McGill hire car, took the win in the meeting final ahead of Dale Sutherland and Fraser Clark.

The 2.0 Hot Rods completed the line up. The formula struggled in the wet conditions as the tyres offered next to no grip, but as the track dried up, the racing sped up and the drivers battled well. Charlie Hardie was the driver to beat on the night though, as he took a heat and final win, with William Buller taking the win in heat 2. Russell Clacher made his debut in the formula, whilst Gary Dean showed massive improvement to his debut a few weeks ago.

We are back in action at Lochgelly Raceway on Saturday 20th June, with a 5pm start time.
